Security Upgrades in London

Most London front doors have one obvious weak point, and it is rarely the whole door. A survey takes ten minutes and tells you exactly where the money should go — usually far less than people assume.

We fit hardware to recognised standards: TS007 3-star and Sold Secure Diamond cylinders, BS3621 mortice locks, London and Birmingham bars, hinge bolts, and smart locks that actually suit the door they are going on.

Start with the cylinder

If your uPVC or composite door has a standard euro cylinder, that is the weakest link and the simplest thing to fix. A 3-star anti-snap cylinder defeats the snapping attack that accounts for a large share of London forced entries, and it takes about fifteen minutes to fit.

Then the frame

A strong lock in a soft frame achieves nothing — kicked-in doors fail at the frame, not the lock. A London bar spreads the force along the keep side and a Birmingham bar does the same on the hinge side. On timber doors in older London housing stock this is often the single most effective upgrade available.

Smart locks, honestly assessed

Smart locks are excellent for households juggling cleaners, dog walkers, guests and teenagers, and useless if fitted to a door with a snappable cylinder or a failing mechanism. We will tell you whether your door is a good candidate, which models suit it, and what happens when the batteries die or the Wi-Fi drops.

FAQs

Security Upgrades — your questions

What is the single best security upgrade for a London flat?

For a uPVC or composite door, a TS007 3-star anti-snap cylinder. For a timber door in an older property, a BS3621 mortice deadlock plus a London bar on the frame. Both remove a disproportionate amount of risk for the work involved.

Are smart locks secure enough?

A good one fitted to a sound door is secure and convenient. The weakness is almost always the door or the cylinder behind it, not the smart element. We assess the door first and tell you honestly whether it is worth it.

Will upgrading my locks reduce my insurance premium?

It can, and more importantly it keeps your claim valid. Many policies require a specific lock standard on final exit doors; if you do not have it, a claim can be refused. We tell you exactly which standard is fitted so you can confirm it with your insurer.
